Vigne Chigi – Casavecchia Wine


It is an ancient grape variety found in a Roman ruin from which the name Casavecchia derives. The wine is important, austere, elegant and of great structure, with a ruby red color. The aging takes place partly in steel and partly in oak casks. On the nose it is immediately perceived balsamic scents, berries, green pepper and chocolate. On the palate tannins are smooth and elegant, the persistence is long.

  • Agronomic characteristics of soils: Clay with a notable presence of exotic carbonate, facing south-west, with an elevation of 200m above sea level.

  • Harvest: Manual harvest in 20kg boxes
  • Harvest time: First and second week of October
  • Vinification: The grapes are immediately transported to the cellar, where they are destemmed and pressed; then fermented in steel vats where they macerate for 10-12 days. The refinement take place in oak barrels and part in steel for 12 months. In bottle, before being put on the market, a further refinement of 6 months take place.
  • Organoleptic profile: Intense ruby red wine with light violet reflections. On the nose it is possible to perceive very original hints of ripe red fruit and particularly of blackberry and black mulberry, but also of violets. In the mouth it has an excellent flavor and also a moderate freshness with nice hints of vanilla.
  • Pairings: Ideal pairing with various sauces or with beef and pork in all their preparations except for stews. Excellent on all aged cheeses from the Southern  Apennines.
