Vigne Chigi – Cretaccio Wine

Casavecchia di Pontelatone Riserva Cretaccio is the favourite wine of the Vigne Chigi company. It is produced in the vineyard located in Cretaccio, from which it takes its name. The predominantly clayey soil gives the wine great longevity and structure. The refinement takes place partly in oak barrels. The nose immediately reveals balsamic scents, berries, green pepper and chocolate. The palate is harmonious, the tannins are soft and elegant, the persistence is long.

  • Production Area: Hilly area of the city of Pontelatone, at the foot of Mount Friento in the province of Caserta.
  • Agronomic characteristics of soils: Clay with a notable presence of exotic carbonate, facing south-west, with an elevation of 200m above sea level.
  • Grapes: 100% Casavecchia
  • Training system: Guyot
  • Plant density: 4000 plants / ha
  • Vineyard yield: 50 q / ha
  • Harvest: Manual harvest in 20kg boxes
  • Harvest time: First and second week of October
  • Vinification: The grapes are immediately transported to the cellar, where they are destemmed and fermented in steel vats where they macerate for 10-12 days. The aging take place in oak barrels for 24 months. In bottle, before being put on the market, a further refinement of 12 months take place.  
  • Organoleptic profile: Wine with a deep ruby red color, crystalline, with a dense texture. Intense and pleasant hints of black mulberry , carob and coffee are perceived on the nose. In the mouth it is rightly fresh, pleasantly mineral, with interesting hints of ripe red fruit, blackberry, with a very pleasant finish of vanilla and coffee. This is a wine with an authoritative structure, but with round and well-developed tannins.
  • Pairings: It is suitable for savory dishes, such as stuffed beef chop, beef stew with potatoes, cod, as well as furred or feathered game, grilled buffalo fillet. It is ideal on all aged cheeses.
